Leadership and management overlap in that they both require you to embrace responsibility in order to be successful. The leader is responsible for his or her followers. The manager has to be willingly responsible for the details of the mission. Because missions are often highly detail-oriented, it is easy to become obsessed with the day-to-day aspects of a mission, and in the process, lose a goal or vision. There is a song that asks the question,"Where were they going without ever knowing the way?" Managers will go forward without knowing the way, whereas leaders are supposed to be scouting the path ahead.
